happy new year! and congrats to ben gibbard for landing zooey deschanel. she's way hotter. but i think he may be more talented.
my apologies, rock superstars. i've been doing a bit of music writing for my jobby job, where i get paid, so i haven't blogged on here for a long while. the summer exposed me to a bunch of awesome shows and i've seen a fair number of amazing bands since i wrote last.
highlights:
from wakestock:
lupe fiasco
the deftones
goldfinger (who were babies and rushed offstage, but were good while they lasted)
from vfest:
M.I.A.
metric
bjork
arctic monkeys
the killers
smashing pumpkins

i'm so lucky that i can report on stuff like this for work! music better when you're getting paid to listen to it ;) anywho, for today, i'm feeling very emo, so here's a little reminder for all of us from death cab for cutie from an old post i did a few months ago (with a little love from veronica mars, which sadly was cancelled - now we'll never know if veronica and logan get together!). also, an awesome postal service (starring ben gibbard from DCFC) remix of feist's mushaboom that i stole from another blog. enjoy!! i'll try to write more as i can.
i went on an airplane recently, a 12 hour flight. i sat beside a 21-year-old dude. cocky, felt in control of his life, world at his fingertips. not the feelings of one in a quarter-life crisis, no. of course not, he's still in school. he was charismatic, in a way. we chatted, it
was interesting. he told me about this crazy band that he was proud of liking. "death cab for cutie" - played me a little ditty by them. very nice. i told my friend katie. she put it succinctly: "maybe you've heard of this indie group i like to call U2?" yeah, well.anyway, i told him that i'd indeed heard of his pet band. i suppose this is nothing new, but i've been listening to this song non-stop since i heard it. can't remember when that was, but it's fair to say it was a while ago. it sort of gives me hope. not... hope.... but it's logical, you know? we all go through times when we're not with someone, but odds are that i'll be in a relationship again sometime. this song reminds me that someday, i will be loved. if you're interested in something a little rarer, check this matthew sweet cover the band did for npr. not sure about the date for that. also, check this clip from the henry rollins show - the show features lots of great bands and airs on showcase and IFC in canada.
